What is the STP Equity Analyst Program?

The STP program provides the fundamental background and skills required to be a successful Equity Analyst at Spot. It is a one-year program that combines classroom education and rotations through multiple areas within Spot’s trading organization. As an incoming STP, you will be matched with a mentor to help guide you along the way. Upon successful completion, you will join our Research team as an Associate Equity Analyst. The learning experience does not end there; rather it continues everyday at Spot.

What does an Equity Analyst do at Spot?

Equity Analysts at Spot are multi-disciplinary, creating value using traditional long/short equity and credit skill sets to uncover alpha-generating trade ideas and strategies.

Our analysts proactively stay abreast of industry news, analyzing company fundamentals and identifying catalysts to determine their impact on equity valuations and underlying stock volatility. You will have the opportunity to identify company and sector-specific drivers while utilizing fundamental valuation skills to provide impacting research and generate trading ideas as a sector generalist. Analysts are also encouraged to engage with sell-side contacts and company management teams in order to gain insight and supplement internal analysis.

Why should you join us?

The research team is passionate about the markets. As an equity analyst, you will work side-by-side with traders and quants following intra-day market activity. Our unique approach to security pricing provides analysts a unique opportunity to be exposed early-on to a broad spectrum of macro and industry specific factors that drive markets. You will be empowered to make decisions and recommendations in reaction to the markets while gaining immediate feedback on your ideas.

While our competition may focus on a singular core competency to gain a competitive edge, we pride ourselves in our ability to integrate several areas of functional expertise into a uniform translation of the market. This includes combining both qualitative and quantitative information into our business model that would otherwise be lost in a strictly technology-driven trading approach.

What is it like to work at Spot?

It is extremely demanding, and we only seek people who thrive in high-pressure situations. You will be challenged to gain new insights and engage in critical thinking every day. To meet these challenges, we provide a team-focused environment where you will learn from and support each other daily. At Spot, you will discover your true potential and form lasting friendships along the way.

What skills/background do you need?

To be a successful Equity Analyst, you will need exceptional quantitative and problem solving skills in addition to a Bachelors degree in Business, Economics or a related field. Our analysts have an aptitude for analyzing financial statements and deriving valuation and scenario models. You will need to demonstrate sound business judgment and strong communication skills to share information and make recommendations on projects and across teams.
